Richard-workingRichard is passionate about his profession and has an impressive list of achievements, including establishing the Cosmetic Dental Clinic in Remuera, and the New Zealand Institute of Cosmetic Dentistry, the first private teaching institution in the country with hands-on courses for general dentists. He has travelled extensively as a lecturer, in 2000 was President and Life Member of the US based World Congress of Microdentistry and in 2001 was awarded New Zealand’s first Advanced Certificate in Dentistry.

His achievements reflect his passion for the profession he decided on when he was 15. “My father was a doctor and I also wanted to help people but I also wanted to use my love of art and cosmetic dentistry was perfect. It is a combination of art and science, developing a relationship with each patient, based on trust, and looking after their dental health and appearance. Cosmetic dentistry allows me to recreate nature to achieve a natural and often improved aesthetic appearance,” he says.
After graduating from the University of Otago, Richard moved to England to work and study more advanced dental procedures at the University of London, gaining a Masters Degree in Restorative Dentistry. For the last 10 years he operated the clinic in Remuera before the country life beckoned and he, his wife Leslea and 3 daughters, decided to move from the city. In 2007 their clinic was set up in Pukekohe at Pukekohe Dental, offering quality cosmetic dental procedures as well as private family dental care.
“Deciding on a change of lifestyle away from the stress of the city enabled us to introduce a high quality, high technology clinic for the Pukekohe area,” he says. “Pukekohe seemed to be one of the nicest towns within close proximity of Auckland, but with its own character. We particularly like the friendliness of the people and the open spaces. Leslea works with me at Pukekohe Dental and is one of the most experienced dental hygienists with training both in New Zealand and the US. Leslea is qualified in children’s dentistry, a member of the Dental Council of NZ and is a Past President of the NZ Dental Hygienists’ Association. We are proud to be working with Vicki, Helen and Melissa, who have each been at Pukekohe Dental for over 25 years.
“It is well known that Pukekohe is a rapidly developing town and we are seeing a number of more specialist services being offered, which gives local people another option for professional treatment, rather than travelling to Auckland city. We support this growing trend.”
